French police have opened an investigation into the apparent suicide of actress Lucy Gordon.

The British actress - who appeared in movies including Spider-Man 3, Frost and Serendipity - was found dead at her Paris apartment on Wednesday, just two days before her 29th birthday.

The Times of London reported on Thursday that Gordon hanged herself. Her body was found at her apartment at la Rue des Petites Ecuries after her boyfriend, who was reportedly asleep in the apartment when Gordon killed herself, alerted a nearby shopkeeper.

The actress is believed to have been devastated after the recent suicide of a close friend in the U.K.

Gordon's father, Richard, spoke out on Friday, to put an end to speculation over the circumstances of 28-year-old Gordon's death by confirming two suicide notes had been found at her Paris home - one written to her parents and the other outlining her wishes for the disposal of her estate.

He said: "There is no question of foul play. Lucy committed suicide."

Gordon recently finished filming on a biopic of singer-songwriter Serge Gainsbourg in which she played British actress Jane Birkin. Trailers for the movie were shown at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this week.

Karan To Rename His Film Jehaad

The film which is based on the global terrorism topic was till now supposed to be titled as Jehaad as the actors of the film Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan were calling in their interviews. But it was never the official title. The producer Karan Johar and director Rensil D’Silva has become cautious about calling it as Jehaad, so planning to change it as Qurbaan.

As the global market is looking at the film with curiosity and suspicion, Karan doesn’t want to give any wrong signal by naming it as Jehaad. Jehaad is an Islamic term for Holy War, so the makers of the film don’t want to sound it in the favour of Islamic terrorism and put off the interest of global audience.

One source revealed, “As soon as the title Qurbaan is made official, Karan and Rensil plan to call a press conference to correct the media perception that the film is called Jehaad. Since Kareena and Saif used Jehaad in all their interviews, it will take some time for Jehaad to get out of the public’s mind. They have made a gripping thriller on terrorism. The narration is taut and uninterrupted by Bollywood formulae like songs, dances and melodrama. Kareena and Saif have even done one of the boldest love sequences ever.”

When asked to Rensil, he confirmed it and said, “We did consider it but it is unlikely that we will call the film Jehaad. Karan and I need to sit down and talk about it, but he has gone off to Cannes.”

Karan refused to comment on it and went off to Cannes. Karan represents an alcohol brand at Cannes. He will be walking the red carpet all alone. “That’s the status of my life- single. And that is how it shall be at Cannes, or anywhere else,” said Karan.

Karan Johar’s production house Dharma Productions is claimed by actors and vendors in Philadelphia, USA for non-payment of $150,000 (almost Rs. 74.4 lakhs). The actors and vendors were worked for Rensil d’Silva’s Kareena-Saif starrer Jihaad. According to the reports of local newspaper, the lawsuit claims breach of contract by Dharma Productions and its partner Swish Films of Melbourne.

But a source close to Dharma Productions has something different to tell about it. The source said, “It’s not Dharma but their online producers Swish who have goofed up with the payments. Do you know of Dharma ever defaulting on their payments? Karan’s father Yash Johar worked all his life to preserve his company’s reputation. Do you know how hurtful it is for Karan to be suddenly accused of such unbecoming conduct?”

Evidently, Karan will take action on their partner producers Swish for creating such a fraud.

The source continued, “Yes Dharma is suing Swish. Karan’s legal department is on the job. In the meanwhile Dharma has decided to clear all the payments of the Philadelphian crew, although the money had already been passed on to Swish for payment. But Karan would rather deal with the default allegation first and then take on Swish to get back his money.”

French Producer Wants to Cast Mr. Bachchans

As Abhishek Bachchan at Cannes accompanying wife Aishwarya Rai, seems like have impressed the filmmakers out there and receiving film offers. Manuel de la Roche, the Paris based producer wants to cast father-son Bollywood duo Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan for his next film.

French director Jan Kounen will direct the film, which is named as The Secret History of the Dalai Lamas. The director will soon approach the Bachchans with the acting offers for the film in lead roles.

Roche said, “The film will trace the history of the Dalai Lamas all the way from 14th century. It will blend dramatized re-enactments involving the earlier incarnations with excerpts from an interviews with the current Dalai Lama.”

Other than these Bollywood actors, the film will also cast Hollywood biggies Sharon Stone and Richard Gere.

“We are very keen to cast the father and son duo in key roles in the film. Sharon Stone (who is a practicing Tibetan Buddhist) will step in as the narrator, while Hollywood star Richard Gere will also be involved with the project,” added the producer.

Shooting for the film start later this year and will be shot mainly in Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and some other parts of Indian Subcontinent. It will be ready to hit theaters in the second half of 2010.

The father son duo had earlier worked together for films Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and Sarkar Raj. However will soon appear together in R. Balakrishnan’s Pa.

BALTIMORE – Girls rule! The best 3-year-old in the land just happens to be a filly named Rachel Alexandra.
Jockey Calvin Borel all but guaranteed victory in the Preakness Stakes and, boy, did she deliver, becoming the first filly in 85 years to win the second leg of the Triple Crown.
A rangy bay — as big as most of the horses she beat — Rachel Alexandra shot to the front Saturday and wasn't seriously challenged until a late close by Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird.
By beating him she ended any chance that thoroughbred racing would have a Triple Crown winner this season. Affirmed was the last Triple Crown winner in 1978.
Rachel Alexandra led by a head at the quarter and half-mile poles. She stretched it to a half-length at the three-quarters pole. She was ahead by four lengths going down the stretch. In the end, the 9-5 favorite won by a length in her first race against the boys.
The win also validated Borel's decision to climb off Mine That Bird and stay on the filly as her regular rider.
Now Borel may get a shot at a personal Triple Crown, if Rachel Alexandra goes on to the Belmont Stakes in three weeks. The 1 1/2-mile race is the most grueling of the three.
"I'm not worried about nothing," he said. "It's going to take a racehorse to beat her."
Rachel Alexandra had already beaten up on her own gender, winning her five previous races by a combined 43 1/2 lengths.
Musket Man finished third, as he did in the Derby, followed by Flying Private and Big Drama.
Rachel Alexandra covered 1 3-16 miles in 1:55.08 and became the first horse to win at Pimlico from the No. 13 post on the far outside. She paid $5.60, $4.60 and $3.60. Mine That Bird returned $6.60 and $4.80, while Musket Man paid $5 to show.
"I'm thrilled to death with the race my little horse ran," said Chip Woolley Jr., who trains Mine That Bird. "You have to give that filly credit. She's a great one."
Rachel Alexandra earned $660,000 from the purse of $1.1 million.
Papa Clem was sixth, followed by Terrain, Luv Gov, General Quarters, Friesan Fire, Pioneerof the Nile, Tone It Down and Take the Points.
The last filly to win the Preakness was Nellie Morse in 1924. Rachel Alexandra became the second filly to go off as the wagering favorite and win. Whimsical at 8-5 odds was the first, in 1906.
Rachel Alexandra stumbled slightly leaving the gate, then stuck her head in front at the first turn and refused to give way.
Her first challenge was to get rid of Big Drama, a persistent presence from inside down the backside and into the final turn. Once she shook him loose and opened up the four-length lead at the top of the stretch, Mine That Bird made a run at her.
Borel sensed she was tiring, and took firm hold of the reins.
"I had to put the bit in her mouth because she was kind of struggling," he said. "It kind of took a lot out of her."
Still, she had enough left at the end and crossed the finish line to the cheers of 77,850 fans — the smallest crowd since 1983 — at Pimlico.
"Awesome," said Bob Baffert, who trains Pioneerof the Nile. "Rachel Alexandra is amazing. She took the heat and kept on going."
The most impressive of Rachel Alexandra's performances was her stunning victory by 20 1/4 lengths in the Kentucky Oaks, the day before the Kentucky Derby.
This ending was far different from the last time a filly challenged the boys. Eight Belles finished a gallant second in last year's Kentucky Derby, then broke both front legs while galloping past the finish line and was destroyed on the track.
This time, it was all cheers. No tears.
"Rachel Alexandra was great," trainer Todd Pletcher said. "She took it right to them, led every step of the way. She deserves a lot of credit."
Rachel Alexandra, marked by two white spots on her head, wasn't even supposed to be in the Preakness. Her original owners, who named the filly after a 13-year-old granddaughter, didn't nominate her to the Triple Crown races, believing fillies should run only against their own gender.
After the Oaks, Rachel Alexandra was sold to Jess Jackson, founder of Kendall-Jackson winery, and Harold McCormick.
They ponied up $100,000 to buy her a spot in the race, and the gamble paid off.
"There was a lot of social criticism and doubt about whether she was capable," Jackson said. "I think I would've taken some heat if she hadn't performed well, so that takes some heat off my shoulders."
Borel had total faith in the filly, making the unprecedented decision to dump Mine That Bird after his stunning Derby victory at 50-1 odds.
"She's the best horse in the country right now, bar none," he said.
The last filly to win a Triple Crown race was Rags to Riches, who beat the Jackson-owned Curlin in the 2007 Belmont Stakes. Her victory was the first by a filly in that race in 102 years.
The start of the Preakness was delayed slightly when Big Drama reared up in the gate and dumped his rider. Rachel Alexandra stood at the opposite end, waiting patiently for the biggest test of her life.
Unlike the Derby, Mine That Bird had a tougher trip with Mike Smith, Borel's replacement, aboard. A light rain fell at the start of the race, but it didn't turn the dirt track into the kind of slop that he flew through to win at Churchill Downs.
"My hats off to her. She's a talented, talented mare," Smith said. "Anyone else would have caved."
Borel crossed the finish line, wagging his right index finger to signal their No. 1 status.
"Turning for home, I knew I was home free," he said.
Fans hoping for a rematch in the Belmont will have to wait a few days for a decision, although Mine That Bird will definitely run.
"I'll depend on her. The horse always tells you if they're ready," Jackson said. "Would we love to run? Yes. Could she win? We think so. We've already shown she can run with colts. It's a question now of her best interest."

VIENNA – After four months in an Iranian prison, American journalist Roxana Saberi was savoring her first taste of freedom back in the West — beaming a confident smile Friday upon touching down in Austria's capital but keeping silent about the details of her ordeal.
After thanking those who supported her during her captivity, Saberi was whisked away to the home of friends in Vienna, where she planned to spend several days recuperating and coming to terms with her experiences in Iran.
"I need some more time to think about what happened to me over the past couple of days," the 32-year-old journalist told reporters at the Vienna airport. "Nobody knows about it as well as I do and I will talk about it more in the future, I hope, but I am not prepared at this time."
Saberi, who grew up in Fargo, North Dakota, and moved to Iran six years ago, has dual citizenship. She was arrested in late January and convicted of spying for the United States in a closed-door trial that her Iranian-born father said lasted only 15 minutes.
She was freed on Monday and reunited with her parents, who had come to Iran to seek her release, after an appeals court reduced her sentence to two years suspended.
The United States had said the charges against Saberi were baseless and repeatedly demanded her release. The case against her had become an obstacle to President Barack Obama's attempts at dialogue with the top U.S. adversary in the Middle East.
Saberi, who at one point went on a hunger strike, said she was grateful for the support she had received: "Both journalists and non-journalists around the world, I've been hearing, supported me very much and it was very moving for me to hear this," she said.
Among those who strove to bring attention to her plight were students and faculty at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, Saberi's alma mater.
"We are delighted that she has been released," Larry Stuelpnagel, who taught Saberi in 1999, said in an e-mail. "She showed a great deal of courage during her ordeal and we all hope to see her when she returns to the States."
Saberi's safe arrival in Austria was also greeted with joy in her home state. Gov. John Hoeven said he spoke by phone with Saberi Friday morning and was "pleased to hear she and her family are doing well."
"I expressed that all North Dakotans are happy about her release, and we look forward to welcoming her home," Hoeven said in a statement.
While her supporters rejoiced, rights groups cautioned that many incarcerated journalists face a less fortunate fate.
"The good news is short-lived — we don't want others to be forgotten," said Meredith Greene Megaw, director of communications at the Committee to Protect Journalists.
Jean-Francois Julliard, head of Reporters Without Borders, hoped Saberi would share her story with the world. "I hope this affair will mobilize efforts to release ten Iranian journalists being held at this moment in Iran," he said.
Saberi did not specify how long she planned to stay in Austria, saying only: "We're going to stay here for at least a few days and then go on to the United States."
She said it was still unclear if she would also travel to France, where a film she co-scripted premiered at the Cannes Film festival on Thursday. The film's director is Saberi's partner.
At the airport, Saberi made special mention of Austria's ambassador to Iran Michael Postl, whom she described as "very helpful."
Austrian Foreign Ministry spokesman Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal said Postl knows the Saberi family and, due to his extensive contacts in Iran, was able to help secure her release.
Austria has had a decades-long dialogue with Iran on human rights and was also involved in the release of Iranian-American academic Haleh Esfandiari from prison in 2007.
Esfandiari, when contacted for comment, said she sympathized with Saberi's urge to withdraw for a few days. "Roxana will need to take a few days off," she said.
Saberi ended her hunger strike in prison after two weeks when her parents, visiting her in prison, asked her to stop because her health was weakening.
Saberi had worked as a freelance journalist for several organizations, including National Public Radio and the British Broadcasting Corp.
After her arrest, Iranian authorities initially accused her of working without press credentials, but later leveled the far more serious charge of spying. Iran released few details about the allegations that she passed intelligence to the U.S.

Having spent 20 days in close proximity (shooting for Ram Gopal Varma's Nishabd) with Amitabh Bachchan, Ramu's new discovery Jiah Khan is yet to recover from the Bachchan spell. But the sexy 19-year-old is clear that she doesn't want to come out of the spell! "It's a beautiful world I have created," she says bashfully. "He is immensely sexy and smells so good. When Mr Bachchan would enter the sets, I would tell everyone it's him, without even seeing who's come because of his perfume." It's clear that nothing charges the dusky beauty up as much as the Bachchan topic. So, has Mr Bachchan become the object of her affection? "In a way, yes...

I think I've fallen in love with Mr Bachchan.

He is the most charming man I have ever met in my life. But he is married! I have never admitted my feelings to anybody. Please don't make me blush more," she says, going red in the face. "I have always told the guys I dated that I will fall in love with someone who will make me laugh. Mr Bachchan has done that. He is everything that I wish for in a guy. Even though she doesn't miss her father, she's aware that a girl who grows up without a father seeks 'a father figure' unconsciously in every man she meets. So, are the feelings for Mr Bachchan an unconscious way of seeking a father figure? "Maybe. The costumes in this film are very bold, wild and revealing. When I'd dress up and come in front of Mr Bachchan, he would look at me from top to bottom with a very disapproving and confused look. So sometimes, he came across as fatherly." Now, with the shooting over, Jiah is suddenly lost because she had to abruptly part ways with the man she adores. "He just came, shook hands and left. I had so many things to tell him which I couldn't," she says with sadness. "Now, I'm writing a letter to him, expressing whatever I felt," she says.

Jiah was born and brought up in London. She was supposed to be making her debut in Anurag Basu's Tumsa Nahin Dekha, but was replaced at the last minute by Dia Mirza. Ty Murray eliminated from `Dancing With the Stars'

LOS ANGELES – The King of the Cowboys has left the ballroom.

After weeks of less-than-stellar scores, rodeo champ Ty Murray was eliminated from "Dancing With the Stars."

The 39-year-old bull rider came into Tuesday's semifinal results show in last place with 48 points out of 60.

"We might be at the bottom this week, but week one we were the 13th-worst couple," Murray joked of his unlikely success in the ABC dance-off.

The nine-time world champion rodeo cowboy joined the hit show with wife Jewel, who was sidelined by an injury before the competition began. Alongside professional partner Chelsie Hightower, Murray plodded ahead with stiff hips and a positive attitude that moved fans to bring him back week after week.

Judges praised Murray for his hard work and can-do approach.

"If the others have climbed hills, you've climbed mountains," head judge Len Goodman said Tuesday. "With that dedication and work ethic, you've been a credit to everyone on the show."

On Monday, judge Carrie Ann Inaba named Murray "the most valuable player of season eight."

The lovable cowboy said he knew dancing would be "a giant stretch" but that he approached it with the same vigor he does bull riding.

"There's not one ounce of quit in this entire body," he said Monday.

The ballroom audience rose to its feet to bid Murray farewell Tuesday. He smiled, saying he has "a whole new respect" for dancing. He also thanked his partner.

"Teaching me to dance is like trying to teach a blind guy to paint," Murray quipped.

Tuesday's results show also included a performance by Raphael Saadiq and the continuation of the new professional dance competition: Two pro dancers are vying for viewer votes and a spot on the next season of "Dancing With the Stars," slated to begin in September.

Actor Gilles Marini, Olympian Shawn Johnson and "The Bachelor" reject Melissa Rycroft will compete for the mirrorball trophy on Monday.

A new "Dancing" champ will be crowned May 19.

New Moon Gets Trashed

When a St. Louis woman found a copy of the script for New Moon in the trash, she must have asked herself, "WWECD?"

Returning the pages to the movie studio, rather than leaking them online or selling them to the highest tabloid bidder, is exactly what Edward Cullen would have done...and it's exactly what Casey Ray did.

The salon owner was waiting for her fiancé outside the very hotel where the cast of George Clooney's Up in the Air was staying. Upon peering into a nearby garbage can, she discovered the scripts to the Twilight sequel, as well as a movie called Memoirs.

Ray stood to make a pretty penny had she offered the script to a tabloid or on put it up on eBay, but instead, she chose to take the high road and returned both documents to Summit Entertainment.

In return, the treasure spotter reportedly earned herself a pair of tickets to both films' premieres.

"We thank and commend Ms. Ray for doing the right thing in returning the scripts to the studio," a spokesman for Summit tells E! News. He could not confirm the do-gooder's invitation to the films' openers.

While It remains unclear how the coveted papers made their way to the dumpster, we have our suspicions. Actress Anna Kendrick stars in Up in the Air and just so happens to play Bella's pal Jessica opposite Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in New Moon.

Depeche Mode lead singer in hospital in Athens

ATHENS, Greece – Depeche Mode lead singer David Gahan is not well enough to perform in Athens on Wednesday, concert organizers said, a day after he was rushed to hospital moments before he was to appear on stage.

Tuesday night's concert north of the Greek capital was canceled after Gahan, who turned 47 last month, fell ill and was hospitalized overnight. Neither organizers nor the hospital would say what he was suffering from.

About 20,000-30,000 fans who had turned up to hear the British band were told to retain their tickets in case the singer was well enough to reschedule the concert for Wednesday.

"Even though everyone hoped for the singer's speedy recovery and the rescheduling of the band's show for today ... according to the information received by the band's management and the doctor on duty, the artist's health condition does not allow it," the concert organizers, Didi Music, said in an announcement Wednesday afternoon.

The company said it would make a later announcement as to whether the concert would be rescheduled for another day or definitively canceled.

There was no immediate word on how Gahan's illness might affect the band's next stops on their tour schedule. They are due to play in Istanbul, Turkey, on Thursday, before heading to Romania for a Saturday concert in Bucharest.

The British band emerged in the early 1980s, releasing 46 singles and a dozen albums.
